Nicaraguan man charged with assaulting ICE officer in San Jose

(KRON) — A Nicaraguan man has been charged with assaulting a deportation officer with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a facility in San Jose. The U.S. Department of Justice, citing a criminal complaint said that Francisco De-Jesus Morales, 25, of Nicaragua, assaulted the officer at an ICE facility on May 2.

The incident occurred when the officer who was assaulted and two others attempted to take Morales into custody pursuant to a warrant for his removal and deportation from the United States. Morales, according to the DOJ, physically resisted arrest and attempted to flee from the officers.

This resulted in a struggle and injuries to Morales and the officers. All three officers, along with Morales, received treatment for injuries sustained during the altercation.
