Spouses arrested in San Jose casino chip embezzlement scheme

(KRON) — A husband and wife duo were arrested for an alleged embezzlement scheme that stole hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of gaming chips from a San Jose casino, the San Jose Police Department announced Wednesday.

San Jose police investigators responded to the report of suspected embezzlement at a local casino on May 23. Detectives learned that between May 1 and May 22, a woman employed at the business, identified as 38-year-old Ellen Mangundayao, was embezzling gaming chips, SJPD said.

According to authorities, the employee would give stolen chips to her husband, identified as 41-year-old Mark Mangundayao, for him to cash out.

Following an investigation by the SJPD Division of Gaming Control and Financial Crimes Unit, police determined that Ellen and Mark Mangundayao “conspired in the embezzlement of hundreds of thousands of dollars over several years.”…
