He lost his right to vote — and feared ID theft. The answer was more baffling

Vincent Genovese was preparing to travel to the East Coast for his nephew’s graduation when he received a letter that said he was no longer eligible to vote.

The letter, dated May 14 from the Alameda County registrar of voters, said the San Leandro resident had been deemed mentally incapacitated by a court, making him ineligible to cast a ballot in California.

This was not true — at least to Genovese’s knowledge. The 76-year-old widower had been retired for about a decade.
