CHP crackdown leads to over 17,000 citations, 373 alleged DUI arrests in statewide effort

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The California Highway Patrol’s statewide Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) has concluded, yielding significant results in the fight against dangerous driving behaviors. The enforcement initiative, which ran from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, through 5:59 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, focused primarily on curbing speeding, one of the most perilous behaviors on the road.

During the MEP, officers conducted 21,414 enforcement actions, resulting in 17,949 total citations. Of these, 12,355 were for speeding violations, highlighting the ongoing issue of excessive speed on California’s roads.
