A coastal flood advisory has been issued for several regions of California, it comes off the back of a freak thunderstorm that took a deadly turn over the weekend.
Six people have been killed and two are still missing after a boat capsized on Lake Tahoe when a sudden thunderstorm whipped up strong winds and created waves of six to eight feet high on Saturday. At around 3pm a Coast Guard response crew were called out to a report of 10 people in the water in the vicinity of D.L. Bliss State Park.
The people had been in a 27-foot, gold Chris-Craft vehicle that capsized due to a large swell. Wind gusts up to 45 mph were measured by a NASA-maintained buoy in the middle of the lake but a phenomenon known as a downburst means its likely that even stronger winds hit a smaller portion of the lake.
