SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. – The Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors is calling on federal and state agencies and Governor Gavin Newsom, moving to cut down on illegal pesticide use within the county.
The Board voted unanimously on Tuesday, July 1 to proclaim a local state of emergency related to the illegal use of pesticides in unlawful cannabis growing and processing sites. The Board said that “unregulated, foreign-labeled pesticides” are being misused as fumigants at these sites, releasing toxic smoke.
The proclamation calls on Siskiyou County to form a multi-agency emergency response task force, seek state and federal assistance and launch public education campaigns with groups like CalEPA, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)…
