Since 2017, Molly Myerson has run the Little Wing Farm stand, a self-serve shed on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road bursting with agricultural bounty: organic eggplant, rainbow Swiss chard, zucchini, lettuce and flowers, just to name what’s in season right now. But after eight years, she’s losing both the farm stand and the land where she grows her crops. In May, Myerson’s landlord asked her to vacate the land she leases on Black Mountain Ranch, just east of Point Reyes Station, as first reported by the Point Reyes Light.
Myerson said that while she was in negotiations at the time on a new lease with owner Marcel Houtzager, she had no idea she was going to be asked to leave. Houtzager bought the Black Mountain Ranch from longtime owner Dave Osborn in 2021 for $8.8 million. Initially, he told Myerson to vacate the land by October, but after explaining that she had already planted 1,000 tomato plants to carry her through the fall season, he allowed her to stay until the end of the year.
“People are just as shocked as me and really heartbroken,” Myerson said. “Our CSA started last week, so I’ve had a lot of face-to-face encounters with people who are just really at a loss as to why this would happen.”
With its visible location on the road to Point Reyes National Seashore, it’s not only locals who patronize the Little Wing Farm Stand but also day-trippers from all over the Bay Area. The roadside stand operates via honor system, with a cash box on the shelf and a notebook for shoppers to record their purchases…
