San Jose’s newest elected representative took office at the City Council meeting Tuesday — marking a new chapter for District 3 whose prior leader is behind bars.
Councilmember Anthony Tordillos took the oath of office — and his seat on the dais alongside his 10 colleagues — following applause from an audience celebrating the former Planning Commission chair and Google executive’s quick ascent. The new downtown leader has said housing will be his first priority.
“Thank you to everyone who helped me get to this point,” Tordillos said in brief remarks from the dais. “Thank you to my family for joining me today. This is an immense honor and responsibility that I don’t take lightly.”
