Redwood City Police Arrest East Palo Alto Man on Multiple Charges After Kidnapping Incident

In a troubling example of public disturbance escalating into an alarming criminal incident, the Redwood City Police Department responded to a sequence of emergency calls yesterday. The first reports came in around 8:22 AM, concerning a man who had forcefully taken control of a vehicle at Franklin and Monroe Streets after attacking the female driver, according to a press release by the Redwood City PD.

Witnesses described the suspect as having dramatically leapt onto the car’s roof before proceeding to kick and shatter the windshield, drag the occupying woman to the passenger side, and drive away. The ensuing chaos prompted multiple individuals to place 911 calls correctly. One of such callers was instrumental in helping to quickly track the vehicle by providing its license plate number, which allowed law enforcement to pinpoint the vehicle’s recent movements through the Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

Following the close partnership between community members and law enforcement, officers located the vehicle near Roosevelt Avenue and Oliver Street. The sounds of a woman’s screams emanating from the car reinforced the urgency of the situation. The vehicle was later stopped, with the male suspect detained and the female victim located safe, around 9:38 AM, after officers from the RCPD and San Mateo County Sheriff’s Deputies canvassed the area…
