(KRON) — Four Bay Area cities top the list of California’s safest suburbs, according to a recent study. Palo Alto, Livermore, Pacifica and Mountain View were also ranked by SmartAsset to be among the safest in the nation.
SmartAsset’s annual list of “America’s Safest Suburbs” ranks 360 suburbs that are within 45 minutes of driving distance to a major city. The rankings are based on rates of violent crime, property crime, drug overdoses, traffic deaths and excessive drinking.

For the second year in a row, Lehi, Utah, takes top honors as the number one safest suburb in the United States, according to the study. Bethesda, Maryland, and Great Falls, Virginia, round out the top three.
