Education officials celebrate progress in chronic absenteeism but say ICE is undermining progress

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — As a working mother of a 10-year-old, Samantha Moreno said she doesn’t know what she would do if her daughter’s school hours didn’t align with her work schedule.

“It would 100% be a huge issue,” Moreno said. “I don’t know how I would manage that. You know, as far as getting her here [school] on time, I would most likely have to compromise on my end and figure out a different work schedule or employment.”
