A timelapse video shared on social media compared a large California wildfire to an exploding volcano on Wednesday.
The Context
The Garnet fire ignited in Fresno County on Sunday. It has since grown to 13,934 acres and is 0 percent contained. Nearly 1,000 personnel are fighting the flames, and evacuation orders and evacuation warnings have been issued in the surrounding area.
On Tuesday, Fresno County declared a state of emergency because of the impact of the fire, which threatened homes and critical power transmission infrastructure in Fresno County.

On Wednesday, extreme weather chaser Colin McCarthy shared a timelapse video on X, showing smoke from the fire. The video was taken by UC San Diego.
