This morning in Scotts Valley, an overturned tanker truck incident triggered a major emergency response. The truck, carrying 8,600 gallons of fuel, tipped over southbound on Highway 17 just south of Summit Road. According to a social media post by the Santa Clara County Fire Department, the back half of the vehicle was precariously lying across the highway, spilling fuel, while the front end was dangling off the side of the mountain.
Responders from various agencies quickly arrived to tackle the hazardous situation. The Santa Clara County Fire Department’s Hazmat Team was called in at 7:37 a.m., backed by additional specialized units, including Urban Search and Rescue, to initially control and then to prevent any further leakage more aggressively.
