Tech giant cuts nearly 250 Palo Alto jobs days after OpenAI deal

Broadcom is cutting nearly 250 jobs in Palo Alto just days after revealing a high-profile partnership with OpenAI to build custom artificial intelligence chips.

According to a notice filed with California’s Employment Development Department last week, the $1.65 trillion semiconductor company plans to permanently lay off 247 employees at its Hillview Avenue offices in Santa Clara County, effective Dec. 19.

The layoffs come as Broadcom continues a series of workforce reductions that began after its 2023 acquisition of VMware, the software firm whose headcount was reportedly cut by half earlier this year…
