‘Really magical’: Rare snow-white fawn spotted in Bay Area park

Matthew Raifman and his family went looking for tarantulas in an East Bay park last week.

They found no tarantulas, but they did see something far more extraordinary: a snow-white fawn.

The fawn was grazing with three brown deer that Raifman assumed to be its mother and siblings. Raifman, a semi-professional wildlife photographer, parked the car and got out with his long-lens camera. For about half an hour, he followed the deer family from a distance as they wandered through the park, grazing on grass and berries while the sun set…
