On the evening of October 27, 2025, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop near Fruitdale Avenue and Leigh Avenue in San Jose. The driver became uncooperative, barricading himself inside his vehicle and not following commands.
Deputies and the Sheriff’s Psychiatric Emergency Response Team spent over two hours attempting to resolve the situation with verbal commands and less-lethal tools. The man later exited the vehicle holding a knife and moved toward the deputies.
At least one deputy fired a weapon. The man was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead at 10:16 p.m…
