CHP responded at 1:16 a.m. to northbound 101 north of San Antonio Street on the report of a vehicle crash. Officers located the pedestrian, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation determined a 2017 Infiniti being driven by a 24-year-old San Jose man was traveling northbound on the highway when the pedestrian stepped into his lane from the left. Authorities said the driver attempted to avoid the collision but struck the woman.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash, CHP said.
