Record Number of New CHP Officers to Support Public Safety Across Local Communities

As 2025 ends, California Governor Gavin Newsom attended the graduation of 137 new California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers. This class brings the total number of CHP cadets graduated in 2025 to 780, the highest in the agency’s history. The new officers will be assigned to locations across California to support public safety and community service.

Governor Newsom acknowledged the cadets’ dedication and noted their commitment to serving communities. He stated that the addition of new officers supports efforts to improve public safety. CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee also recognized the cadets for completing the 26-week training program at the CHP Academy.

The Academy’s training covers vehicle code enforcement, criminal investigations, emergency vehicle operations, and officer safety. Cadets also study legal responsibilities, communication, ethics, and cultural awareness. Their training ends with a 5-mile run, which tests endurance and teamwork.
