Santa Clara Valley Water District Announces: City of Santa Clara Recognized for Adopting Water Efficiency Measures

The Santa Clara Valley Water District reports that its Board of Directors has formally recognized the City of Santa Clara for adopting new water efficiency standards. According to the District, on November 25, 2025, the Board unanimously passed a resolution commending the city for being the first in Santa Clara County to implement measures from the Model Water Efficient New Development Ordinance (MWENDO). The MWENDO was developed collaboratively by Valley Water, the County of Santa Clara, local municipalities, and community partners to encourage water conservation and sustainable management.

The District states that Santa Clara’s adoption of these measures aims to improve efficient water use in new developments, expand recycled and graywater reuse, promote sustainable landscaping, and reduce water loss. These initiatives are described as part of broader regional efforts to address drought, adapt to climate change, and manage water resources responsibly.
