San Jose woman’s suspected killer arrested in Oregon

(KRON) — A man who is accused of committing a “brutal murder” in San Jose in 1997 was recently apprehended in Oregon and extradited to Santa Clara County to face charges, police announced Wednesday.

The victim, 84-year-old Alice Sharitz, lived alone in her apartment on Jackson Avenue. On October 6, 1997, a neighbor delivering a card to her noticed that the elderly woman’s front door was ajar. He looked inside and discovered Sharitz lying on her living room floor with a knife embedded in her chest, San Jose Police Department Sgt. Jorge Garibay wrote.

Police said the neighbor immediately called 911. “An autopsy revealed Ms. Sharitz suffered two stab wounds to the chest, multiple fractures, injuries to the neck, and numerous facial abrasions. The cause of death was determined to be multiple traumatic injuries,” Garibay wrote…
