Beach Warning Issued in California, Oregon—‘Stay Away From The Ocean’

Beach hazard warnings have been issued to beaches along the California and Oregon coastlines, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning swimmers, surfers, and beachgoers to “stay away from the ocean and remain out of the water.”

In California, the NWS has issued a beach hazards warning in place from late Monday night through Tuesday, evening.

This is because there is “an increased threat of sneaker waves” expected to hit Coastal Del Norte, the northern Humboldt coast, and the southwestern Humboldt counties.

“Don`t be fooled by an ocean that looks calm,” the alert warned. “There can be 30 minutes of small waves before a sneaker wave strikes. Avoid rocks and jetties. Avoid steep beaches. Stay much farther back from the water and never turn your back on the ocean.”…
