The former principal of two East Bay private schools was charged on suspicion of wage theft, tax evasion and embezzlement from teachers and parents at both schools, prosecutors announced Wednesday.
Prosecutors accused Victor Dawson, 52, of committing wage theft in 2024 against 47 teachers and other staff at New Horizons School (K-8) in Newark and Mission Hills Middle School in Castro Valley, the latter of which he owned, according to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said Dawson embezzled retirement contributions from paychecks of six teachers. Dawson was also accused of evading state and payroll taxes by not filing the necessary tax returns while allegedly deducting payroll taxes from the teachers’ paychecks, prosecutors said…
