Helicopters to fly at low altitudes around Bay Area ahead of Super Bowl LX, officials warn

(KRON) — Helicopters with the the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration will fly at low altitudes around the Bay Area between Feb. 2 and Feb. 4 in preparation of Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

The flights are to “protect public health and safety during the event,” the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management announced Friday.

“These surveys are a normal part of security and emergency preparedness activities,” the SF Department of Emergency Management said. “NNSA wants the public to be aware of the upcoming flights so residents who see the low-flying aircraft are not alarmed.”

The region will host numerous high-profile events ahead of the big game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots on Feb. 8.

The Federal Aviation Administration and FBI are also enforcing a “no-drone zone” at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara during Super Bowl LX and at key downtown San Francisco locations leading up to the game.
