San Jose police say a routine check on a group drinking in public today turned serious when officers with the department’s Violent Crimes Enforcement Team found a juvenile carrying a concealed gun inside a satchel.
According to the department, an adult in the same group was also found with suspected narcotics and briefly challenged officers to a fight before being detained. The adult was booked into jail, and the juvenile was taken to juvenile hall. Police described the stop as a proactive move aimed at keeping firearms out of minors’ hands and cutting down on street violence.
