Would-be bank robber arrested in an hour by officers using surveillance tech, San Jose police say

A man who recently tried to rob a San Jose bank by handing the teller a handwritten note demanding money was arrested within an hour, authorities said.

Ryan Gress, 41, was arrested Feb. 3 during a traffic stop in South San Jose on suspicion of trying to rob a bank in the 3000 block of Meridian Avenue, the San Jose Police Department said.

Officers responded to the area on reports of an attempted bank robbery at about 1:15 p.m., police said. The tipster reported that a man entered the bank and handed an employee a handwritten note demanding money, police said.
