AMERICANS looking to buy their first home can soon apply for up to $150,000 in down payment help, but they’ll need to meet strict requirements and get picked in a lottery.

The cash is offered through a state-backed program that will reopen for applications from February 24 through March 16.

The rollout is happening in California, where officials are putting about $200 million into the latest round of the down payment assistance scheme known as Dream for All.
