San Jose to tear down ‘The Jungle’ homeless encampment

(KRON) — City leaders said San Jose’s “last large encampment” will be dismantled and cleared away by mid-April. The sprawling encampment, nicknamed “The Jungle,” is on a city-owned parcel of land near the intersection of Story and Senter roads in Coyote Meadows.

On Wednesday, city staff members began notifying about 100 people who are currently living in the encampment that The Jungle will be cleared starting on April 15.

“Noticing includes in-person outreach on site, where interim housing will be offered, as well as the distribution of written materials in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese,” the mayor’s office wrote…
