A midday fire that ripped through a carport at a Campbell apartment complex on Monday temporarily forced about 60 residents out of their homes and destroyed three vehicles, authorities said. Fire crews stopped the flames before they could breach interior units, and no injuries were reported.
According to the Santa Clara County Fire Department, the blaze was reported at approximately 12:58 PM and caused significant heat damage to the exterior windows of 10 units. Crews shut off power to the entire complex because of damage involving electrical lines, and Pacific Gas & Electric was working toward restoring service.
