2,700 pounds of meth seized in Northern California — one of largest drug busts in U.S. history

Northern California authorities seized 2,700 pounds of methamphetamine and arrested eight people in one of the largest narcotics busts in U.S. history, the Drug Enforcement Administration announced.

Agents dismantled a major meth lab in Valley Springs (Calaveras County) on Feb. 27, the culmination of a five-month investigation involving the DEA’s Sacramento branch, sheriff’s offices in Sacramento and Calaveras counties, and other law enforcement agencies, authorities said.

“This is truly an example of the good work that happens when multiple agencies come together for one, unified mission,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement. “Stopping the production of illegal drugs isn’t just about law enforcement, it is about protecting families, saving lives, and defending the future of our communities…
