Google completes restoration of Hangar One, one of the world’s largest structures, in South Bay

MOUNTAIN VIEW — Google has completed a major effort to restore and reutilize Hangar One at Moffett Federal Airfield, a project that could transform the landmark into a future hub for innovation and technology.

The completion of the Hangar One project by Google’s Planetary Ventures unit represented a success story for both Silicon Valley and government officials, such as former South Bay Rep. Anna Eshoo, who led a yearslong effort to first rescue the hangar from the wrecking ball and then restore it to modern-day standards.

Google hosted numerous dignitaries inside the cavernous Hangar One — one of the largest freestanding structures on earth — Friday to celebrate the transformation.
