Sunday Night Inferno Guts Los Gatos Home, Family Of Three Displaced

A quiet Los Gatos block turned chaotic last night when a two-story house on the 300 block of Bachman Avenue went up in flames, triggering a two-alarm response from Santa Clara County Fire. The home was fully engulfed when crews arrived, and while no one was hurt, a family of three was displaced as firefighters stayed into the evening, chasing stubborn hot spots.

In a Facebook update, the Santa Clara County Fire Department said arriving crews found the structure “fully involved” and quickly upgraded the incident to a second alarm to bring in more help. According to the post, Pacific Gas & Electric and the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department also responded, and firefighters contained the blaze to the building where it started.

Santa Clara County Fire’s operations overview explains that a second-alarm call brings in extra engines, ladder trucks and battalion chiefs, typically boosting staffing to around 40 firefighters on a two-alarm assignment. That surge in personnel lets crews hit a fully involved home with a coordinated, multi-angle attack and helps keep flames from jumping to nearby properties.

Local Precedent

Los Gatos is no stranger to big residential fires that require extra manpower. In 2021, CBS San Francisco reported on a separate two-alarm house fire in town that drew a significant County Fire response as firefighters worked to knock down heavy flames and shield neighboring homes.

What Officials Said

In its Facebook post, the Santa Clara County Fire Department confirmed that no injuries were reported, that a family of three was displaced and that firefighters remained on scene after the main fire was out. The department said the cause of the blaze was not yet identified; investigators are expected to determine where and how it started once overhaul is complete and utilities are fully secured…
