On March 24, 2015, Officer Michael Johnson, a 14-year veteran of the San Jose Police Department, was killed in the line of duty while responding to a call on the 2600 block of Senter Road. The suspect, armed with handguns, fired from a second-floor balcony, fatally striking Officer Johnson before being shot by another officer. A memorial service on April 2, 2015, at the SAP Center drew over 8,000 attendees to honor his sacrifice. Officer Johnson was the 12th San Jose officer killed in the line of duty.
