Rishi Kumar’s push to exempt seniors’ from property taxes risks undermining community stability

High school students don’t usually think much about property taxes. Why would they? They almost never own property, and the idea of paying taxes on a home or business seems like a distant concern at most.

But here’s why we should care: Property taxes pay for everything from the schools we attend to the local agencies such as fire and law enforcement that protect us. Advocating for lower property taxes may sound appealing, but instead, threatens the education of all 1,150 students at Saratoga High and the Saratoga community.

Late last year, former Saratoga City Councilman Rishi Kumar lost an election to Neysa Fligor to be the assessor for Santa Clara County.
