A late-night drive in San Jose turned tragic yesterday when a 17-year-old driver was arrested after a collision on Curtner Avenue near Highway 87 that killed another motorist and injured two people, according to police.
The crash was reported at about 1:05 AM and involved a 2022 Honda Accord and a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu, police said. The Malibu’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen driving the Honda and a woman riding with him were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive. The 17-year-old was booked into county juvenile hall on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, authorities said.
According to The Mercury News, the Honda struck the Malibu as the Malibu was turning onto the eastbound lanes of Curtner Avenue from the southbound Highway 87 off-ramp. San Jose police logged the crash as the city’s 10th traffic death of the year. By the same point in 2025, there had been seven, a jump that has traffic-safety watchers on edge.
