Serial Milpitas porch pirate drops gun at scene during alleged theft: PD

(KRON) — A 44-year-old Milpitas man tied to a recent series of package thefts near South Main Street and Great Mall Parkway was taken into custody this week after police said swing shift officers and a homeowner’s front surveillance video allegedly caught him in the act.

The Milpitas Police Department confirmed they were notified of the aforementioned thefts in the area around 8:34 p.m. Wednesday and arriving officers quickly spotted the suspect’s vehicle driving through a nearby neighborhood.

MPD said officers tracked the suspect as he left his vehicle and walked up to a home. Thinking another package had been stolen, officers approached him when he returned his vehicle.

“During the investigation, an alert homeowner came outside and told officers that a handgun was left near their home after the subject left,” said police in social media post Friday. “The homeowner also provided video footage showing the subject dropping it before officers approached him.”

The man, who has not yet been identified, was taken into custody without incident, according to MPD…
