If you’ve ever tried to plan a family dinner with grandparents in town, two restless kids, and one cousin who’s strictly Jain, you already know the problem. Most Fremont “family restaurants” solve for two of those three. These six hidden gems solve for all of them — pure vegetarian, kid-approved, and still interesting enough that the uncle visiting from Bangalore won’t say “we have better at home.”
1. Saattvik Indian Dhaba (Ardenwood, Fremont). Father-daughter duo Rakesh and Ruby Sharma started this 100% vegetarian Punjabi dhaba in 2021, right in the middle of COVID. Dhaba-style curries, 34115 Fremont Blvd, and the kind of place where the owners actually remember your order. Kids’ menu rating: 4/5 — the dal and paneer are non-spicy by default if you ask.
2. Sri Annapoorna / Dosa Express (Centerville). Gen-Z women-owned, and recognized by both the City of Fremont and the San Francisco Chronicle as one of the best in town.
100+ dosa varieties, some up to 20 inches long, and the signature $8.45 Mega Combo (Masala Dosa, Idli, Medu Vada, Sambar, 3 chutneys) is hands down the best value in Fremont.
Reviewers call it the “best mysore masala and ghee dosas in the Bay Area.” 3625 Thornton Ave. Closed Tuesdays.
3. Rajwadi Thali, Chaat & Sweets (Mowry corridor). If the grandparents are visiting, this is the move. The Unlimited Rajwadi Executive Thali is $25.99 — four vegetable curries, dal, kadhi, rotis, puris, rice, khichdi, two desserts, plus complimentary unlimited chaat of the day. Unlimited refills, 100% Gujarati, and it handles large family groups without a reservation headache. 3352 Mowry Ave.
4. Honest Restaurant (Downtown Fremont). The Pav Bhaji specialist.
Pure vegetarian, deep Gujarati street food menu, Jain options throughout, and their party trays (the paneer tikka one feeds 15) deliver — a favorite for Diwali hosting. 3658 Capitol Ave, closed Mondays…
