A large search operation is underway in California’s Mojave Desert as authorities, volunteers, and family members continue looking for Julie Elizabeth Goforth, a 63-year-old retired Long Beach schoolteacher who disappeared while riding her dirt bike near El Mirage Dry Lake.
Goforth was last seen on Friday, July 10, in the El Mirage Dry Lake Off Highway Recreation Area near Adelanto. Four days later, search crews were still combing the vast desert landscape, where temperatures had climbed well above 100 degrees, increasing concerns for her safety.
Search Intensifies Across Harsh Desert Terrain
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Goforth was riding with a friend when the two decided to separate briefly to explore different trails. They agreed to meet again after about 10 minutes at a designated location near the El Mirage Visitor Center.
Her riding companion returned as planned, but Goforth never arrived…
