Man Declared Factually Innocent After Serving 30 Years for 1993 Gang Murder in East L.A.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (VVNG.com) — After spending 30 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit, Humberto “Beto” Duran was officially declared factually innocent of a 1993 gang-related murder in East Los Angeles.

The announcement came Friday, April 18, 2025, when Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke II granted Mr. Duran’s motion for a finding of factual innocence. The motion was supported by Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman, who appeared in court to affirm his office’s position.

“Today is a monumental day for Mr. Duran, who was cleared of a crime he did not commit after more than three decades,” said District Attorney Hochman. “Justice takes many forms, and I often announce arrests, convictions, and sentences. However, today justice required the setting aside of a conviction and agreement to a motion for factual innocence.”…
