Opinion: Terrorized by Unleashed Dogs in Santa Barbara

Before I could protect myself, I was pitching sideways like a felled log toward the black asphalt of the street. My legs were tangled within two leashes restraining my own two dogs, bracing for the sudden assault of a loose dog. I landed directly onto my right elbow, shattering it. I lay in the street where the loose dog had encountered us, all dogs barking vociferously, immobilized with pain, whimpering, until an unknown Good Samaritan came to my aide.

In painful shock, yet clutching with a death grip my own dog leashes in my left hand, I remember hearing somebody say, “He wouldn’t bite you.” I subsequently required surgery to embed multiple plates and screws to reduce my elbow fractures. That was one year and 2 months ago…
