Woman escapes alleged assault, lighter fluid attack near California homeless encampment

Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man accused of assaulting a woman and attempting to set her on fire near a homeless encampment along Highway 101 in Montecito.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 8:17 p.m. Thursday to an area near southbound Highway 101 and the Sheffield Drive on-ramp after receiving a 911 call reporting that a woman was being threatened and that an attempt had been made to set her on fire.
