Gold Coast Transit seeks input on bus fare increase

Gold Coast Transit District riders could see rides go up as much as 75 cents for one-time bus fares as the organization mulls its first rate bumps since 2010.

The district is kicking off a series of public forums this week to gather input on proposed changes to the fare structure.

“It’s been quite a long time since we adjusted fares,” Vanessa Rauschenberger, district general manager said. “We want to ensure we’re able to maintain our service levels.”

Gold Coast provides public transportation for Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ventura and unincorporated areas of Ventura County.

Two proposed alternatives make changes across Gold Coast’s fare schedule, including its fixed routes and paratransit service.

While the base fare would increase by up to 75 cents, the 31-day pass is facing a $15 hike.

The district will continue to offer reduced rates, though they also face an increase.

Seniors 75 and over, college students and those 18 and under will still ride for free under the proposed changes.

Riders can fill out surveys at meetings, online or on buses. Feedback will be used by staff to make a recommendation to the board of directors this spring, Rauschenberger said. The new fares could go into effect later this year or in early 2025.
