City programs for homeless focus of Ventura area community council meeting

Jeffrey Lambert, CEO of the Housing Authority of the city of San Buenaventura, will discuss city programs for the homeless at Ventura’s College Area Community Council virtual meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Lambert is a former community development director for Ventura and Oxnard. His presentation will include a discussion of the La Quinta Inn, which will transition from a 142-room hotel into 134 permanent supportive housing apartments for the homeless with a $32 million state grant. The hotel is at 5818 Valentine Road in Ventura.

Heather Sumagaysay, a city spokesperson, will detail plans to repair the Ventura Pier, which has been delayed until summer after December’s heavy surf caused severe damage. The pier was previously damaged in January 2023 after heavy storms and had been scheduled to reopen in March.

Councilmember Mike Johnson will discuss current City Council issues.

Additionally at the meeting, Ventura police Cmdr. Mike Brown will provide an update on local crime.

Vanessa Stotler, communications and marketing manager for Ventura College, will give the latest campus information.
