New California housing laws focus on ADUs, affordable housing and more

The Carpinteria City Council and Planning Commission conducted a joint special meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 17, reviewing new California housing laws arriving in 2024 and 2025. In 2023, the California State Legislature passed 56 new bills as a part of a larger, concerted effort to address the state’s renowned housing crisis. Last Wednesday, city staff provided the city council and the commission with an overview of how these laws will influence Carpinteria’s housing priorities moving forward, impacting local affordable housing, housing production, zoning and more.
