Pedestrian killed by train near Solimar Beach

A pedestrian was fatally struck by an Amtrak train north of Ventura late Friday morning, authorities said.

The incident was reported shortly after 11:20 a.m. near Solimar Beach, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Greg Gibson. Tracks in the area are situated between old Pacific Coast Highway and Highway 101 on a seaside stretch between Ventura and the Mussel Shoals area.

The pedestrian, a woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, Gibson said. Her age and city of residence weren’t available.

Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner train No. 765 had been traveling northbound, from Irvine toward Goleta, when the pedestrian, described as a trespasser, was hit, a spokesperson for the rail agency said. There were no injuries among the 64 crew members and passengers aboard.

The incident remained under investigation Friday afternoon by sheriff’s officials and railroad authorities.

A week ago, on Jan. 19, a pedestrian was killed by an Amtrak train in Oxnard.
