The promenade at the Ventura Harbor Village came to life during the Ventura Art & Chalk Festival on Saturday and Sunday.
Artists donned in kneepads used chalk to paint their creations on the promenade and a parking lot as people watched. The gallery included Batman, Sonic the Hedgehog, blue butterflies and a swimming feline that sparked debate over whether it was a catfish or a whiskered mermaid.
The festival was dedicated to co-founder Randy Hinton, of Ventura, who died a year ago after a battle with cancer. Proceeds go to charities, free art projects and scholarships.
