SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City Fire Department and Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol assisted in the rescue of a man who got caught in the extreme high tide below Shoreline Park around 7:21 on Monday night.
The agencies were dispatched to a cliff rescue on the 1400 block of Shoreline Dr.
Battalion Chief Jon Turner said 2 engines, a truck company, a battalion chief, AMR and the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol responded.
Crews met a German tourist who scaled the cliff at Shoreline Park to report his friend missing.
They had been walking along the beach together when they got separated by the tide.
Rescue swimmers searched the beach on foot, while the Harbor Patrol searched the water.
Santa Barbara Police Officers deployed a drone to help in the search.
In about an hour the man was located on a rock west of 1000 steps.
Rescue swimmers helped him onto the Harbor Patrol Boat.
They brought him back to the patrol dock where he was reunited with his friend.
