Pedestrian dies after crash

A 75-year old woman has died after being struck by a vehicle Sept. 18 near East Thompson Boulevard at South Palm Street in Ventura.

Rita Kelly was a Ventura resident, the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office reported. The manner of death was deemed accidental.

The Ventura Police Department said Kelly had been crossing the street around 10:45 p.m. when she was hit by a vehicle. The driver pulled over and cooperated with investigators, police said.

Kelly had been taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she later died.

Plea entered in double murder case

Double murder defendant Alvin Johnson pleaded not guilty this week in Ventura at his arraignment.

Johnson, 42, of Camarillo, entered the plea Wednesday to all charges in connection with attacks reported on Aug. 29 , according to the court docket.

He has been charged with the murders of 33-year-old Ricardo Juarez Jr., who was stabbed, and 75-year-old Marilyn Gallagher, who died from her injuries after suffering severe head trauma that has been linked to being pistol-whipped.
