Ventura Harbor visitors could start paying for parking in spring

Beginning in spring, visitors to parking lots at Ventura’s Harbor Cove Beach and other Ventura Harbor lots could start paying for parking under a new plan being considered by the California Coastal Commission on Wednesday.

The city of Ventura approved a coastal development permit in May that allows paid parking across all of the Harbor Village lots, three North Harbor lots and the Surfers Knoll beach parking lot, according to a coastal commission staff report .

The commission, which has jurisdiction over the 239-space Harbor Cove Beach lot, is expected to approve it. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco and can also be viewed live at cal-span.org .

The proposed fee is $1 per hour or $10 a day for a parking pass after more than 4 hours. Payment times will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The plan will use walk-up kiosks and mobile payment options.

Todd Mitchell, deputy general manager of the Ventura Port District, said if the coastal commission signs off on the plan, the Board of Port Commissioners will vote on a request for parking management services in December.
