Central California City Celebrates Grand Opening of Chumash Museum and Cultural Center on May

SANTA YNEZ, Calif. — The long-awaited Santa Ynez Chumash Museum and Cultural Center will officially open its doors to the public on Thursday, May 15, at 3500 Numancia St. in Santa Ynez.

Spanning 14,000 square feet, the museum highlights the rich heritage of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians through over 24,000 cultural items—ranging from baskets and ceremonial regalia to hunting tools and musical instruments. Outdoors, a 3.5-acre cultural park features exhibits and more than 11,000 native California plants.

Designed by Jones & Jones Architects, the museum includes the Tomol House, Ancestors’ Grove, and a sculpture by George Rivera.
