Woman Suffers ‘Traumatic Injury’ in Amtrak Train Accident

A 24-year-old-woman suffered a “traumatic injury” after being struck by a train in California after she became stuck on the track, KTLA reported.

According to the Ventura Police Department, the incident occurred on July 7 around 5:30 p.m. local time as a woman was crossing the railroad tracks east of Seaward Avenue in the popular beachside town of Ventura. Officers responded after receiving reports of a “pedestrian struck by a train,” with one caller reporting that the victim “appeared to have lost her arm as a result of the collision.” They provided first aid at the scene before transporting the woman and her “severed arm,” which was “located nearby,” to a local hospital. The victim was in “stable condition” as of 11 p.m. on Monday evening.

Authorities believe that the accident occurred while the woman was “attempting to cross the tracks while carrying a bicycle” as a “southbound Amtrak train” approached. “The train struck the bicycle while it was still in her grasp, resulting in the traumatic injury,” police explained. “It appears the bicycle may have become stuck on the tracks just before the collision occurred.”…
